Scott Reid – 10,000 runs in HK&HDCA Senior Competition

Congratulations to Scott Reid, HK&HDCA Executive Officer (and Life Member), who passed 10,000 runs in the senior HK&HDCA competitions last Saturday. Scott scored 95 runs playing for Beecroft CC in its Round 3 match against Normanhurst CC at Thornleigh Oval. This incredible achievement had only been reached by five other players in the 100 year history of the Association – Les Stranger, Alf James, Dave Lea, Grant Reid (Scott’s twin brother) and Geoff Findlay. Although disappointed at not reaching his century, Scott achieved another milestone – his 50th half century.
Scott is in his 35th season as a player for Beecroft CC in the HK&HDCA competitions, starting in the U/16s back in 1985-86. Scott jointly holds (with Adam Nash – 329) the HK&HDCA record for the highest partnership for any wicket in any Senior grade – 7th wicket, 427 runs in the B Reserve Grade Final at Parklands Oval in 1990-91 (Scott scored 212 no in a team total of 725) – see historical photos.

ON THIS DAY 7 YEARS AGO: HK&HDCA secured the u/19 NSWDCA Durham Shield defeating Sutherland by 3 wickets at Storey Park.

Great to see 4 members of the Aubourg family don the whites together for Kissing Point on the weekend!

Round 1 of the NSW Youth Championships was held today, with Hornsby sharing the spoils over the 6 games.
Last year’s Moore Shield premiership team opened their U15 Weblin Shield campaign with a win over Inner West Harbour. Hornsby 5/229 d IWH 127. Sidhant Singh continued his good batting form top scoring with 83. The boys were presented with their 2019-20 premiership caps and medals during the lunch break at Barker College.
The U14 Moore Shield had a heart stopping 1 run victory. Defending 92, IWH were 9/69 and almost pulled off a brave win. Regan Bridgewater taking 4 for 16. The reverse happened in the under 12s. Chasing 135 runs, Hornsby fell just 2 runs short with 3 balls to spare.
In the U13 Gee Shield, Nicholas Blackmore batted through the innings for 80 not out, but it was not enough to reel in IWH imposing total of 9/224.
For our division 2 teams, the U13s lost by 9 wickets but our under 12s won by 73 runs with Jacob Hanlon taking 3 for 6.

HKHDCCA / NDCC school holiday cricket clinics – October 2020

The Coaches' Association (HKHDCCA) has scheduled two junior cricket clinics in the September / October 2020 school holidays at Mark Taylor Oval, Waitara.
HKHDCCA is an outstanding not-for-profit sporting association that was established in 2010 (https://bit.ly/CA-AR-19-20) and is led by Rod Hokin, a Cricket Australia, High Performance (Level 3) accredited Head Coach; and Bruce Wood, President, Coaches' Association.
During the past decade, the Coaches' Association has conducted over 50 school holiday cricket clinics for boys and girls aged from 6 - 14 years covering all standards from beginners through to experienced representative players. The Coaches' Association's fee structure is heavily subsidised and they always receive excellent feedback from the players and their parents.
The Coaches’ Association has an approved COVID-19 Safety Plan.

Alok Malhotra took an incredible 9/49 in last year’s A Grade semi final. What was the highlight of your 2019/20 season?

Congratulations to our under 14 boys representative team for winning the Anthony Neale Cup grand final.
After dismissing Maitland for 130 (Joshua Escott 4/27), Hornsby chased down the runs in the 3rd last over with 4 wickets in hand. The run chase was a team effort, with the top 5 batsman reaching double figures. Shaurya Vajhula top scoring with 52. The team was coached by Connor Hindmarch and managed by Paul Boland.
Our under 13 boys also won their competition by 4 points. Congratulations to coach Varindar Rawat, manager Raman Swaminathan and to the team for a successful season.
We thank the managers and coaches of all our representative teams for the work they do for representative cricket, and wish the players the best of luck for those who will play junior finals. We hope to see you all at the representative trials in March.

2019/20 HK&HDCA A GRADE SEMI FINAL PREVIEW

14 rounds have come and gone in the A Grade season and now the top 4 teams are only one game away from a grand final where they’ll battle for the TE Rofe Challenge Shield.
Berowra Cricket Club finished the regular season undefeated on 76 points, 10 clear of second placed Glenorie District Cricket Club who comfortably finished ahead of Kenthurst Upper Hills Cricket Club (56) and Hornsby District Cricket Club (45) who round out the 4.
BEROWRA (1) VS HORNSBY DISTRICT (4) @ BEROWRA OVAL

In a rematch of last seasons grand final Berowra will host Hornsby District at Berowra Oval. In their only regular season game this season (the other was washed out), Berowra comfortably beat Hornsby by 64 runs in a one dayer at Parklands. Reigning premiers Berowra will go into this one as favourites but can’t afford to be complacent against a Hornsby team with arguably the best top order in the competition.

A key match up to watch will be Hornsby’s gun opening batsmen Richard Johnson and Ben Fisher up against the competitions premier quick Nick McNay.
GLENORIE DISTRICT (2) VS KENTHURST UPPER HILLS (3) @ PARKLANDS

Both teams will head into their semi final full of confidence having had their best regular season points tally in more than a decade. Glenorie will have a slight upper hand after winning both games between the teams this season by margins of 13 runs and 4 runs.
Key players to watch include the Tully brothers who are currently the competitions leading wicket taker (Liam Tully) and run scorer (Mitch Tully) while James Dallaway and Alex Pagano will be the key men for Kenthurst.

In the Grand Final, Blacktown recovered from 5 for 72 to set a competitive target of 183. Luke Sylvester (3 for 35), Dylan Ranjan (2/25) and Sidhant Singh (2/31) were the main destroyers. Jordan Netto's 4 stumpings and a catch took his season tally to 23 dismissals.

Hornsby started well with a 74 run opening partnership. We chased down the target in the 46th over with 6 wickets in hand. Sidhant Singh top scoring with 78, well supported by Jehan Polwaththe 58 not out.

A GRADE ROUND 2 PREVIEW

This Saturday sees a number of juicy A Grade fixtures headlined by the 2018/19 Grand Final replay between Berowra and Hornsby at Berowra Oval. Both teams got off to a flying start in Round 1 and will be looking to breakaway from the other and claim early bragging rights with both sides expecting to go deep again this season.
Elsewhere, WPHCCC take on old rivals St Ives Wahroonga at Turramurra Oval while local rivals Glenorie and Kenthurst clash at Kenthurst in the Battle of the Hills. ARL and Kissing Point will both be looking for their first wins of the season in their match at Storey Park.

The start of the senior competition has finally arrived this weekend for 72 teams from 15 clubs, an increase of 7 teams from last season. An Australian Ashes victory over the winter must have inspired many to don the whites in an attempt to emulate their heroes. We welcome all new and returning cricketers and wish you good luck for the upcoming season.
There are 2 blockbuster games to kick off the A Grade season. Last year’s premiers Berowra take on semi-finalists Glenorie at Berowra. Can Glenorie break Berowra’s 19 game undefeated streak? Runners up Hornsby hope to go one better this season, playing last season’s semi-finalists WPHC at Parklands.
Kenthurst host the newly promoted Kissing Point, who have stepped up to challenge the big boys in A Grade. A new look St. Ives team play Asquith Rugby League at The Glade.
